KILBURN Cosmos' season was thrown into turmoil after their relegation clash with Old Abbotstonians was controversially called off.

The Cosmos were leading their rivals 10-0 when lock Jon Trout suffered a neck injury, leading to a half-hour delay while an ambulance was called.

But Abbotstonians refused to resume Saturday's Herts/Middx Division One clash after Trout had been taken to hospital, claiming that the light was poor - and insisted that a new date should be scheduled instead.

Kilburn refused and league officials will now decide whether to award them the points, or order a replay of the match.

The Cosmos were on top when play was halted after 27 minutes, with Chris Garvey scoring a try and Chris Coane adding the conversion, as well as a penalty.

Kilburn chairman Phil Morgan said: "Jon has had his best season for us. Luckily it's only muscle damage and he is very much on the mend.

"The opposition decided it would be fairer to play again on another date, with a 0-0 scoreline. We didn't agree, so the whole thing is now with the league for a ruling."

Cosmos face a stern test this weekend when they travel to unbeaten league leaders Chiswick.
